Just Add by Nano Soft

Just Add builds dinner around the food you already have

Just Add is an iPhone meal builder. You say what you have, and it hands back three real dinners, each with the one or two additions that make the meal more satisfying. Nano Soft built it for RevenueCat Shipaton 2026, where it took 1st place in the Nutrition & Healthy Eating category.

Challenge

Make meals more satisfying, without counting anything

Shipaton's Nutrition & Healthy Eating brief came from a registered dietitian: start with what someone already wants to eat and suggest useful additions, such as protein, fiber or healthy fat, with no calorie counting and no rigid meal plans.

Most food apps are trackers. They count, score and log, which wears people out. The people this app is for are done being tracked, and some have a hard relationship with food. One wrong answer breaks trust or does harm: a number, a "cut back", an allergen.

Real dinners are also shared. The person cooking usually carries everyone's allergies and diets in their head. And Shipaton required a brand-new app, released publicly between 1 August and 30 September 2026.

Approach

Put the rules in code, not in a prompt

We turned the brief into hard product rules: only ever add food, never show a number, treat allergens as absolute, and point to real support when someone seems to be struggling.

Then we made the rules structural. Every request passes a distress check before any food is generated. One model call writes three meals. A plain code check, with no AI in it, reads every answer for allergens, diet-culture language, health claims and numbers. A failing answer is regenerated once, then withheld. A failing test for any rule stops a release.

Three options instead of one keep the decision with the person. Every change they ask for is a new plate, checked from scratch. The free plan includes three plates a day, and the paid line follows model cost.

  • Safety checks in code

A plain code gate, not a prompt, rejects any answer with an allergen, a number or a health claim.

  • Three dinners, not one

One suggestion reads like a verdict, so the app offers three and the person picks.

  • Check every change from scratch

Models can restate a rule and then break it during long edits, so every refinement is a new answer with the full check.

  • Read allergies live

Group dinners store who is eating, not a copy of their rules, so a new allergy applies to tonight's plate.

What we built

One sentence in, three dinners out

We built the iPhone app, the safety pipeline behind it, group dinners and a shopping list that works without signal. After a meal the app asks one question, "Did that hold you?", and never shows a number.

  • Three named dinners

Type, say or photograph what you have and get three real meals with their additions.

  • The safety pipeline

A distress check first, one model call, then a code gate for allergens, language, claims and numbers.

  • Tables for group dinners

Cook for several people at once; allergies combine and the strictest diet wins.

  • Changes in your own words

Ask for something crunchy or swap the feta; each version is named and you can go back.

  • Cook mode and shopping

One step at a time with timers that survive a locked screen, and an aisle-ordered list.

  • MCP server for assistants

AI assistants can read and update the shopping list, but no tool can generate a meal.

Outcome

1st place in Nutrition & Healthy Eating

Just Add took 1st place in the Nutrition & Healthy Eating category (Abbey's Kitchen Influencer Award) at RevenueCat Shipaton 2026. The event drew 3,985 submitted projects and named 58 winning apps. The judges singled out the dinner-host feature that includes other people's preferences.

The app has been live on the App Store since 7 September 2026, with a free plan and a Pro subscription. RevenueCat announced the winners on 20 October 2026. Over 2,700 automated tests run on every push.
